The NC Additional Notes provide supplimentary information to help NCRLAP assessors interpret and make scoring decisions when using the Environment Rating Scales for NC Star Rated License Assessments.
Because they provide detailed instruction on how to score many items in the rating scales, the NC Additional Notes are an authoritative resource for child care providers and consultants preparing for an assessment. Our recommendation is that anyone using the rating scales for the star rated license should consult the NC Additional Notes.
Each of the rating scales has a set of notes and these can be viewed by selecting a link above. If you are participating in an assessment for the NC Star Rated License, we would be happy to mail the NC Notes along with the other materials we send before your assessment. Just tell us know that you want us to send you the NC Notes during your scheduling conversation with our staff.
The NC Additional Notes are updated twice annually, as needed, so be sure to check this website on a regular basis for our most current notes.
The NC Additional Notes are written by our State Anchors and Anchor Advisors so that they can provide the "final word" regarding how our staff should intepret and score items using the rating scales.
The authors of the Environment Rating Scales provide their own set of Additional Notes on the Frank Porter Graham (FPG) website. While many may find it helpful to read their notes (click HERE to view to the FPG website), it is important to understand that the FPG notes are NOT used by NCRLAP assessors to help them while conducting assessments. Instead, NCRLAP assessors rely on our State Anchors and Anchor Advisors to provide the "final word" regarding how our staff should interprete and score items using the rating scales. In other words, the NC Additional Notes provide a platform for NCRLAP State Anchors and Advisors to communicate how to score rating scale items for star rated license assessments.
There are many resources that can help you prepare and several documents that require completion prior to an assessment.
